Herbal Tea

What is Herbal Tea?

Herbal tea isn’t a true tea because it is not derived from the tea plant which other teas, such as black tea, are from.

Origin:

Herbal tea dates all the way back to ancient Egypt and ancient China, where texts were found describing the health benefits of drinking herbal styled tea. According to ancient records, herbal tea was not only for the physical benefit, but it also brought a calm feeling and spiritual awareness. The use of dried herbs, flowers, bark, etc is still used today to promote a healthy body and mind!

Health Benefits:

Since herbal tea is made out of different flowers, spices, barks, etc, each tea has its own individual benefit to the body and mind. Some ingredients like cinnamon and lavender might not appeal to someone in the raw form, but by steeping these ingredients they can still obtain the benefits and enjoy a delicious cup of tea!

So what benefits do herbal teas deliver?

Chamomile is known for its calming effect; dandelion soothes an upset stomach and helps with digestion; red rooibos tea (we have this tea) is known for its high concentration of antioxidants.

Caffeine Content:

Most varieties of herbal tea such as: chamomile, peppermint leaf, rooibos, and hibiscus have little to no caffeine. Other teas like Yerba Mate (we have this tea) offer the same amount of caffeine as about ⅓ cup of coffee. The caffeine content solely depends on what roots, flowers, spices, and herbs are used for the tea.

Storing and Preparing:

Store your herbal tea in a cool dark location to make sure that the heat and light does not affect the overall taste. Steep the herbal tea for about 5 – 7 minutes and enjoy! Also, experiment with different steeping times to truly find out what is best for you.
